Francisco Gutiérrez Cossío (San Diego de los Baños, October 20, 1894-Alicante, January 16, 1970), known as Pancho Cossío, was a contemporary Spanish painter.
He was born on the island of Cuba, the son of Spanish parents, Genaro Gutiérrez, a tobacco storekeeper, who became mayor of Pinar del Río and, anticipating Spanish legislation at the time, abolished slavery on his farm, and Casimira Cossío and wed.
They remained there until 1909, when they moved to the capital, Santander.
In 1925 he joined the group of young Spanish painters established in Paris (Francisco Bores, Hernando Viñes, Ismael de la Serna) and his first and very personal style was born.
