Juan Galea Barjola (Torre de Miguel Sesmero, Badajoz, September 19, 1919 - Madrid, December 21, 2004) was a Spanish painter between abstraction and certain representative expressionism of a 'tremendous' style.[citation needed] In 1991 he received the Medal of Extremadura.
After an initial artistic training with the carver Genaro Remedios and the painter Julio Núñez, he enrolled in the Badajoz School of Arts and Crafts.
Alternating work as a carver with painting, in 1950 he was awarded the Drawing Medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts and in 1957 he had his first exhibition at the Abril Gallery in Madrid.
In 1988, on the occasion of the inauguration of the museum in Gijón, he donated a large part of his work to the institution.
