Josep Guinovart i Bertran (Barcelona 1927-2007) was a painter, draftsman and engraver from Catalonia, Spain.
Josep Guinovart i Bertran was born in Barcelona on March 20, 1927. Josep Guinovart i Alujes, the artist's father, is very interested in music, therefore, under the influence of his father, since he was a child he was interested and even marks the idea of rhythm in his future artistic creation.
His first stage is always considered to last from the summer of 1948 to 1951. He abandoned realism with a naturalistic intent and marked the start in a personal way.
In 1951 he abandoned the trade of wall painter and devoted himself entirely to painting.
Guinovart obtained a scholarship from the French Institute in 1952 and traveled to Paris for nine months the following year, which determines a new transformation in his artistic creation, learning about contemporary art and the style of France and Holland at the stay in France.
On his return from Paris, he collaborates with architects and also works on illustrations and set decorations.
As of 1958, although he still maintains a certain structure, he begins to be interested in informalism using coarse texture, especially burned wood.
His trip to Mexico and Cuba in 1972 will be important to him in several ways.
Guinovart's works have already reached full maturity with freedom in language and are always in contact with reality.
He died on December 12, 2007, at the age of 80, having been unable to overcome a heart attack suffered a few days ago.
