Joaquín Torres García (Montevideo, July 28, 1874-Montevideo, August 8, 1949) was a Uruguayan painter, teacher, writer, sculptor and art theorist.
Son of María García Pérez and Joaquín Torres Fradera.
Due to financial difficulties, Joaquín Torres Fradera decided to move with his family in 1891 back to Mataró, Catalonia and then to Barcelona.
He entered the Official School of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1894 and also attended the Baixàs Academy.
Linked to Catalan noucentisme, he collaborated with several of the magazines promoted by Ramón Casas such as Pèl
The birth of his children took his creative work in new directions.
He returned to Spain in 1932, where he settled for only two years, after which he returned to Montevideo, accompanied by his wife Manolita Piña and their 4 children, Olimpia, Augusto, Ifigenia and Horacio.
Shortly after returning to his hometown, he founded the Association of Constructive Art.
